County Governments Main

Sportsmen and conservationists who are willing to contact their elected officials, and urge them to protect our natural resources and wildlife, shouldn't stop at the state government level. Counties also play many vital roles in determining how our landscape will look and whether our natural systems will function.

  • When real estate developers plan new subdivisions, county commissioners need the public's support if they are to demand protections for crucial wildlife habitat and migration corridors.
  • When those subdivisions include poorly planned or overburdened septic systems, county health departments are instrumental in identifying and correcting groundwater contamination.
  • And when invasive plant species threaten agriculture operations or food sources for wildlife, counties provide weed control.

These are just a few of the important conservation responsibilities entrusted to county elected officials. And other services that counties provide, at first glance seemingly unrelated to conservation goals, can be vitally important to those interests: maintaining quality election equipment, prosecuting environmental offenses, or ensuring public safety when hazardous materials are spilled.

Wyoming Conservation Voters offers this section of its Web site to help citizens contact county decision-makers to defend our environment, wildlife and recreational opportunities.
